Celebrating 75 years, the Damon Runyon Cancer Foundation offers fellowships and prizes to support cancer researchers in their early careers. The scholarship does not need any form of citizenship requirements in the United States. These fellowships and grants are open to candidates who have the ability, desire, and originality to become the leading pioneer in the field of cancer research. To support and advance the work of cancer researchers, several scientist fellowship programs are available. The foundation supports theoretical and experimental studies that are pertinent to the understanding of cancer and the pursuit of cancer origins. This also includes the processes, treatments, and prevention.

Application Requirements

  1. Basic and physician-scientist applicants must have graduated no more than a year prior to the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) meeting at which their applications will be considered for level 1 funding.
  2. Prior to the date of the FAC meeting at which their applications are gain experience in labs of their sponsors for more than a year.
  3. They also expect applicants to give all their time and attention to the Damon Runyon-funded cancer scholarship research activities.
  4. For level 2 funding, physician-scientist (MD, MD/Ph.D., DDS, DVM, or equivalent) must be board eligible in the United States and be able to devote at least 80% of their time and energy to the fellowship’s research activities.
  5. Postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows, and clinical instructors are eligible to apply, they may do so at any time. This is until receiving their initial assistant professorship appointment.
  6. Candidates who are now holding or have the National Institute of Health K (NIHK) grant should not apply.
  7. Candidates with institutional K-12 awards may apply. Although if the fellowship accepts them, they will have to return their K-12 funds.

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)

  1.   3. Except for M.D. applicants, who should not include years of residency in this calculation, applicants with 5 or more years of relevant post-doctoral experience at the time of the award validation are not eligible.
  4. The fellowship must be completed at a non-profit institution, whether in the United States or abroad.
  5. Faculty sponsors are limited to three CRI fellows at any time. Each sponsor is to submit one fellow every application round.

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS)

Leukemia and lymphoma society

Leukemia and lymphoma society provides academic grants to help fund researchers and promote basic and translational research on lymphoma, leukemia, and myeloma. This academic award is available to applicants who desire to assist and finance their further research in this field. They offer grants ranging from $55,000 to up to $110,000 depending on the fellowship.

Application Requirements

  1. A Ph.D., MD, DVM, or equivalent degree is essential. At least two years of postdoctoral experience but no more than four years of experience.

  3. Only one application per applicant is necessary.

Research on cancer prevention, treatment, and survival using diet, nutrition, exercise, and weight management is made possible by the American Institute for Cancer Research Grant program. These grants are typically for a maximum of $150,000 over a two-year period. This includes indirect costs.
